Flying Over Holland
Working in the automotive industry I get to experience a lot of different vehicles but they all tend to stay grounded. Luckily my family spans a wide array of motorized passions and the other weekend I found myself riding shotgun in a Piper.
I'm unsure the exact model of his plane but this Piper is a beautiful aircraft. And it looks just like a scene in a movie with the hero about to make a daring escape, finding a mint aircraft laying in wait.
Tim Vehlewald is the father to my sister's husband. I know it sounds like a bit of a stretch but we're a close knit family that shares a lot of the same passions. So it works out that we spend a lot of time together.
It looked a bit cloudy but sunny enough for us to take a flight. So with some preflight checks we'd be on our way.
Sherra, my sister, had already ridden up front previously so I made her sit in back.
Before I knew it the plane was fired up and we were taxing out to the runway.
After some back and forth with the tower we were wheels up and on our way.
I've flown in small aircraft before but never in a low wing. I couldn't help but feel like I was in a WW2 pilot movie.
Tim also gave me a run down of all the gauges. One day I'd love to get my pilots license.
My sister loves this stuff too. I guess it kind of runs in our family since my dad had his pilots license when he was my age and even took our mom up on their second date.
Hopefully in the next few years I can start work on my license and maybe pick up a thing or two from Tim.
Short flights like these only feed my appetite for flight.
