Tacoma Update
Well its been far too long since I've made a post. But hey it's now the start of summer and time to start throwing money at the Taco.
So for starters: some fresh 5W-30 and oil filter at 4,116 miles.
For safety: an H3R Performance Hal Guard fire Extinguisher.
It's mounted to the passenger seat base with a simple steel mount then I drilled it to fit a Drake quick release. It may look like a tight fit but the extinguisher is easily within driver reach and even with weight on the seat the quick pull knob is unimpeded. A few passengers have hit their knee on it when getting in... but that's their problem.
Took a trip to Bundy to shoot the Renegade Trailhawk and had a little fun on the side.
I love how this truck comes from the factory. However, after already getting stuck on my frame rails I'm sensing some upgrades are in order. Possibly Icon suspension, 33's, rock sliders, and the like.
First things first though, communication.
I found a home in the Tacoma's relatively tight cabin for a Cobra 29 WX NW ST.
It ended up being the perfect fit. Passengers may or may not be able to use the sun visor but again, not my problem.
After removing the factory overhead console I came across two bolt holes that matched the CB bracket perfectly. After some measuring and a trip to the local hardware store the radio was mounted.
I used a fuse tap and wired the CB's power to the cabin fuse block and plumbed the ground to the nearest bolt running into a steel mounting point.
The antenna line runs from the CB, follows the power cables across the headliner, down the A-pillar, then out the firewall, and across the passenger side where I have it mounted to a CBI hood bracket.
I'm really happy with how clean this install ended up being.
After being at Overland Expo 2015 last weekend. My head is swimming with ideas for parts and trips with the Tacoma. Next post will be all the gear I have crammed into the little access cab, even I'm surprised how much can fit while still being able to carry around three adults.
