As a kid living in a network of subdivisions I spent hours wondering. Finding all the shortest routes to my best friend’s houses.
In college I spent late nights lapping the UCF campus and lane splitting cars in downtown Orlando.
Road cycling got more serious when my when my brother-in-law, Mike Vehlewald, and I decided to take a 500 mile trip from St Ignace Michigan to Chicago Illinois.

Being into road cycling I know I was never alone in the desire to own a Celeste Bianchi. In the search for a bike for my friend, Max Gensler, I came across this Bianchi Nuovo Record for sale in Bowling Kentucky.

Needing a project and never being one to leave well enough alone I immediately placed a parts order. New tires, tubes, saddle, stem, bars, bar tape, brake levers, brake lines, brake cable housing, shifter cables, and a bottle cage.

My aim was to return the bike to a more period correct feel, while adding in a few modern touches.

I couldn’t be happier with the results. Though, my next step will be a deep dive into the drivetrain. Even still I’ve managed to clock over 40mph.

I love the feel of this bike and I love the looks even better. Peeling decals and all.

I wasn’t too sure what I was getting myself into with this project. But I’m glad it’s given me something different to focus on.
